‘Smokin’ and Drinkin’- Miranda Lambert

The reigning queen of country music has just released yet another great song off of her latest album “Platinum“.

Smokin and Drinkin‘ also features Little Big Town. This song is a great reminiscing song.
It’s a new kinda sexy sound for Mrs. Shelton.

When we were all younger we did and said things that felt right at the time and ‘Smokin and Drinkin’ captures that perfectly. There comes a time in everyone’s life where they look back and miss the good ole days, when we didn’t have a care in the world and our dreams were bigger than our worries.

This song has a very sexy feel to it musically. I don’t what it is, but everything from the lyric to vocal with Little Big Town to the musicians doing their thing; everything just flows perfectly into motion.

This song makes me want to go driving down some back roads and not think about anything but the past.

This is one of my favorite songs off ‘Platinum’. I can’t wait to see what’s next for Miranda. But I think she needs to release ‘Priscilla’; but that’s just my opinion!! 😉

The song writers were:
Natalie Hemby
Luke Laird
Shane McAnally

Bass- Glenn Worf
Acoustic Guitar- Randy Scruggs
Electric Guitar- Jay Joyce
Acoustic Guitar- Richard Bennett
Drums, Percussion- Matt Chamberlain
Synth, Keys- John Jarvis
Pedal Steel- Greg Leisz
Electric Guitar- Jedd Hughes
Background Vocals: Little Big Town
Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Schlapman, Philip Sweet, Jimi Westbrook.

Great job to everyone that made possible!!

“Jim and Jack and Hank”- Alan Jackson

textgramSo there’s been some buzz going around that honky tonk is coming back and bro-country is slowly getting kicked to the curb. Now I don’t know how true this is; but it’s kinda looking that way. And with the Alan Jackson’s latest single it’s starting to prove my point.
Alan Jackson is realising his new album “Angels and Alcohol” on July 17th, which is also his 20th studio album.

Now we haven’t heard much from Mr. Jackson in a few years. His last two albums where Bluegrass and Gospel and let me say that if Alan Jackson sang at church I’m pretty sure attendance would jump. But that’s another story!

Jim and Jack and Hank” is his latest single and my new favorite song and I’ve had it on repeat for the last few days.
This song definitely lands somewhere between perfect and all time favorite. And if your still rocking the brush poppers, you saw “Pure Country” in theaters and you still have “Bubba Shot The Jukebox” on cassette; then you knew what was up in the 90’s and you’ll notice how Alan Jackson is bring it back!!!

“Jim and Jack and Hank” tells the oh so true story behind many break ups. The girl is freaking out and the guy could careless as long as he has his booze.
This is going to be the male break up song of the summer. It has everything in it that many seem a bit to sacred to talk about, like how he hates her perfume and her dog named Chloe.
Not only will this song make you want to bust out the two step you’ll also want to rethink your relationship if your lady is a bit high maintenance. It’s also one of the funniest songs I’ve heard in a while!

Plus what makes this even better is that Alan Jackson wrote it himself. And he also wrote seven out of the ten tracks on “Angels and Alcohol”.
I honestly can’t wait to see the video!!

“Crash and Burn”- Thomas Rhett

I can’t believe that June is almost over! Coming in July I’m going to start doing video reviews!!

So even though Thomas Rhett released “Crash and Burn” back in April it’s just now starting to gain momentum on radio, or at least on my radio.

Crash and Burn” is a different sound then what we’ve been hearing from Mr. Rhett. It definitely has some Motown vibes. I think my favorite part is the chorus. I like how it’s an upbeat break up song. I mean who doesn’t love a break up song that you can dance to. It’s a great way to end things!!

Since Thomas Rhett has made his debut in country music, every one of his songs has a unique and very distinct sound. I love that as soon as you hear the music you know it’s Thomas Rhett.
All of his songs make you want to dance and tap your toe!!

“Crash and Burn” was written by Jesse Frasure and Chris Stapleton.
Chris also just released some new music.

Now if you’ve read my other reviews you know how much I love the music and the band. I could honestly just listen to the band without the lyric.
The band was great on this one. Way to go guys!!

“Crash and Burn” debuted at number 38 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart for the week ending April 25, 2015. It sold 40,000 copies in the US in it’s debut week. As of May 2015, the song has sold 133,000 copies in the US. And it’s currently sitting at 12 on the Billboard Country list. Not to bad if you ask me.

And if the world couldn’t get any better, there’s chatter coming from the backstreets of Nashville that Thomas Rhett and Brett Eldredge could be working in the studio on a new song or as I like to call it a new HIT!! Anything is possible, so until I more we’ll have to wait and keep our fingers crossed!

So at the end of a bad day jump in your car, turn the volume all the way up and hit play on “Crash and Burn”.

“Alibi”- Dave and Whitney

So CMA Fest 2015 is now in the books!! What a crazy and fun week!!! I have to say my Twitter blew up last week, (thanks y’all for the follows)!
And because of that I was contacted by a new duo trying to bust onto the music scene.
Dave and Whitney are probably the cutest married couple in Nashville lol. They are originally from Indiana, but they were bitten by the country music bug and they now live in Nashville. Plus the cool part is, they’re doing it all without a record company!!

Their latest single “Alibi” is amazing!!! I don’t even know where to start!
Whitney’s vocals are super clear and have the perfect amount of twang and sass that we all love in country music! Whitney’s voice reminds me of Lorrie Morgan!!
The guitar intro pulls you in and makes you want to keep listening.
A great country song needs four things to make it truly great.
First it needs a great band, because without the band you have no song. Second you need a talented voice.
Third it needs to tell you a story. And fourth the lyric needs to be clever.
“Alibi” has all four. I could hear this on country radio and I think it would take off like wild fire. It has the perfect amount of wit and sass, total girl power!!!! Plus any song that mentions Real Housewives, should win a Grammy, (sorry I’m a huge Real Housewives fan).
I don’t want to give away what the song is about, because y’all need to go download it, but it definitely gives “Gunpowder and Lead” and “Two Black Cadillacs” a run for their money!!!

Dave and Whitney are coming out with an EP pretty soon and I can’t wait to hear what else they release.

The very talented song writers on this were Rodney Clawson, Sarah Buxton and Jamie Moore.

And a huge shout out to the oh so talented studio band:
Steve Brewster-drums, Jimmy Lee Sloas-bass, Jim “Moose” Brown-keys/B3, Derek Wells-electric guitar, Biff Watson-acoustic guitar/mandolin, Russ Paul-steel, David Campbell II-electric guitar!!!
Why do I care about so much aboutthe band; because without the band you don’t have a song!!!

Dave and Whitney keep up the hard work!!!

“Biscuits” – Kacey Musgraves

Miss Kacey Musgraves might have just released one of the best titled songs in the history of country music!!

Biscuits” was wrote by the extremely talented Shane McNally and Brandy Clark. The lyrics are the best part; especially the chorus,
“Just hoe your own row and raise your own babies
Smoke your own smoke and grow your own daisies
Mend your own fences and own your own crazy
Mind your own biscuits and life will be gravy
Mind your own biscuits and life will be gravy”.

What I like about Kacey is she’s never afraid to tell it like it is. She’s always upfront and to the point. Her songs always have a great message, but in a fun and crazy way. “Biscuits” is another great example of that. Sometimes country music starts to all sound the same and Kacey always seems to be the breath of fresh air.

The music brings it all to life. It’s a mix of 60’s country and 2015!!! This isn’t a sound that we get to hear all the time. It reminds us all where country music started. Hat’s off to the band!!

Kacey has such a unique old sounding voice that really brings all of her songs to life. I honestly can’t think of anyone else that could’ve sang her songs better.

So Kacey keep doing your thing and I can’t wait to hear the rest of “Pageant Material” when it comes out on June 23!!!

“Real Life”- Jake Owen

So you know that guy with great hair and smile from Florida, no not Jeb Bush, I’m talking about Jake Owen. Well he recently released his new single “Real Life“. Jake has come along way since he introduced us to the twins from Saginaw.

“Real Life” is in my opinion a great summer cruise song. It definitely tells the story of pretty much all of us. The lyrics hit deep and everyone can relate. I like how it sounds raw and unfinished; like if me and my crew recorded it in my basement haha. The chorus is my favorite part of the entire song; it’s straight to the point.

It’s a new sound for Jake. I was getting worried that he falling into a song rut. Many times when an artist finds a sound that starts to sell well then they run with it. It’s not always a bad thing I just like to hear an artist experiment a bit. And in Jake’s case he was turning into the beach guy. So this was refreshing to listen to.

Every summer a song comes out and it becomes the anthem. We all have that song that every time you hear it, it takes you back to the best summer of your life. And well I have news for you, “Real Life” is going to be that song.
The only thing that I would change is the ending, because I don’t want it to end!!

So roll the windows down, turn “Real Life” up and go eat a waffle!!

Jake keep it coming and I can already tell that the album is going to be sick!!

“Kick The Dust Up”- Luke Bryan

Well ladies mister handsome is at it again. Luke Bryan has released yet another great dirt road dance song. “Kick The Dust Up” was released in early May and it’s been doing great ever since!
“Kick The Dust Up” is Luke’s newest single from his new album “Kill The Lights” which is set for release on August 7, 2015 (mark those calendars).
“Kick The Dust Up” recently chartered at #2 on The Billboard Hot Country Songs and #40 on The Billboard Hot 100. Not to bad if you ask me.

Luke is known for making great dirt road party songs and “Kick The Dust Up” is another great example of that.
By the end of this song you’ll want to be sneaking into a corn field with some solo cups, a keg and a great sound system!!
I absolutely love how the banjo is remastered it’s a unique touch that I’ve never heard anyone else do.
This song has all of the components of a great country song. 4x’s, drinks, diesel trucks, a banjo, and a corn field.
I can’t wait to see the video for this one!!

We can all give a round of applause to the very talented writers if this one:
Ashley Gorley
Chris Destefano
Dallas Davidson.
Also great job to everyone else that worked on this on!

“I’m Comin Over”- Chris Young

Okay y’all so this week I’ve been OBSESSIVE over Chris Young’s new single I’m Comin’ Over .
Now if you’ve heard it then you’ll understand why I’ve had it on repeat.

The single debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at #57 and Hot Country Songs at #8 on its first week of release. It was the second best-selling country songs with 71,000 copies sold.

I love how at the beginning and end there’s a soft guitar; that does two things for the listener, first it draws you in and second it makes you want to hit replay! I also feel that this song is the best we’ve heard from Chris vocally.
Now I don’t know all of the technicalities of music when it comes to arrangement and notes (I really wish that I did), so I can’t really go there. But I will say from a listeners point of view, it’s very consistent musically which is nice. I hate when there’s too much happening in a song and it seems like two or three songs are rolled into one, it can get very confusing.
This is a great can’t get over you song. It almost feels like an amazing sequel to “Goodbye” from his latest album “A.M.”

The cool part is that Chris was not only one of the writers, he also co produced it. Way to go Chris and everyone else that made it happen. I can’t wait to hear what else y’all will be dropping next!!
