It’s always awesome to find new artists and bands, but when their from your home town it makes it so much better!! Plus I know their drummer he’s awesome lol, I had to give Zach a shoutout!!
Terra Bella is the next duo that’s going to take Nashville by surprise!! Their sound is a new age twist of classic country!! Plus they dress to impress!!! Every time Martina posts a pic of her outfits, I get some major wardrobe envy!!!
2016 is going to be huge for Terra Bella because their new EP ‘Road To Forever‘ is dropping February 9th!!!
I had a chance to interview Joseph and Martina (I love her name BTW!) better known as Terra Bella!!
Thanks guys y’all were awesome!!!
Q1. How did y’all get started in music?
Joseph started playing in bands in junior high. Martina on the other hand began her singing career singing karaoke at local bars.
Q2. Who are your biggest influences in music?
We are both influenced greatly by Merle Haggard, The Judds, Garth Brooks, Trisha Yearwood, Bruce Springsteen, Brandi Carlile, The Eagles…this list could take a little while. Haha!!
Q3. What is your favorite part of preforming?
When you’re on stage, you have the chance to move people. Move people through words, sound and emotion. If that doesn’t give you goosebumps as a performer, you’re doing it wrong.
Q4. California isn’t always known for country music, how do you hope to change that?
Unfortunately, you are correct. CA isn’t know for country music these days, BUT, it has roots deeply planted in the central valley. There is a huge list of country stars that came out of Bakersfield, CA in the 60’s, Buck Owens and Merle Haggard being the most well known. So with respect to that I guess we hope to put California, specifically Central CA, back on the country music map by making honest, real music that stands the test of time.
Q5. I know y’all are from the 559 (which is where I live) and since we’re a little different from the rest of Cali, do you think it helped you in understanding Country Music being around all of the Agriculture?
Absolutely! Agriculture, just like country music, is not a trend but more of a way of life. You take pride in the story of your heritage, just like a songwriter does with their lyrics. You respect where you come from. With a good foundation and a passion for what you believe in, you make the world grow. Agriculture gave us both that.
Q6. What gets you in the writing mood?
A writing appointment in our calendar hahaha! We get 75% of our ideas while stuck in traffic with the radio off.
Q7. What is a song that you wish you had wrote?
Oh great question! We’re both going to agree on “The River” by Garth Brooks.
Q8. What was a song that best described your 2015?
Our song “Hey Mama” is the story of our last couple years.
Q9. If you could go back in time, what historical event would you go to?
Being proud Americans, it would be really awesome to witness the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
Q10. Since your married, what super hero duo best describes y’all?
Definitely Batman and Robin (if Robin was a good lookin girl haha). We are both normal people, we have no super powers, but we work our butts off to make the world a better place.
Q11. Who is your current music obsession that you can’t seem to get off repeat?
We both can’t enough of Brothers Osborne’s new album “Pawn Shop” and Maren Morris’s self titled EP.
Q12. What is your ideal day off?
We love hiking and exploring new towns.
Q13. What are your plans for 2016?
We just finished a new EP with Producer Johnny Garcia who plays lead guitar for Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood, so the next few months we’ll be shopping that around Nashville. We also plan to hit the road pretty hard this year promoting this new music. Hope to ya’ll at a show soon!!! Cheers,
Joseph and Martina
