❣Amish Apple Fritters❣

Nothing like a good old-fashioned apple fritter and a cup of coffee to start a day with….Yum❣ So I tried this recipe out this weekend❣❣ I needed to cook them a tad bit longer❣ I also added a little of the fresh lemon to the icing❣❣

Hope you enjoy❣❣

As Prepared By: JB at The Grateful Girl Cooks!

Recipe type: Breakfast

Cuisine: American

Serves: 5-6

For fritters:

  • 2 Tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • ½ tsp. cinnamon
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 2 tsp. fresh lemon juice
  • 2-3 cups peeled, cored and chopped Granny Smith or Gravenstein apples (firm pie apples!)
  • Vegetable oil for deep-frying (approx. 4-5 cups- enough to come halfway up sides of pan or skillet)

For glaze:

  • 1¼ cups powdered sugar
  • ¼ tsp. vanilla
  • 3-4 tsp. warm water (thin enough to make the glaze “paintable”)

  1. In a large bowl (or the bowl to a stand mixer), cream the sugar and eggs for 1-2 minutes with a mixer.
  2. To this, add the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, salt and milk. Mix these ingredients well.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix the chopped apples with the lemon juice. Using a spoon, add the apple mixture to the batter and stir well, to combine.
  4. Heat vegetable oil to 375 degrees (use a deep-fry thermometer or use an electric skillet with a temperature control). It is very important to make sure the temperature is hot enough to fry the fritters correctly.
  5. Once the oil is at 375 degrees, scoop out really large tablespoonfuls of the fritter batter (as big as you can get ’em!) and carefully and gently slide the fritter into the hot oil.
  6. When they get to a true golden brown color, carefully turn the fritters over to the other side (I used two spoons to carefully flip them) and continue cooking. (This should take approx. 2-3 minutes on each side).
  7. When the fritters become brown on both sides (you might have to flip them over again to make sure both sides are brown), then you know they will be ready and cooked through.
  8. Using a slotted spoon, remove the fritters, one at a time, to a paper-towel lined (several thicknesses) plate to drain and cool.
  9. To make a glaze for the tops of the fritters, mix together the powdered sugar, vanilla and water in a small bowl until you have a nice “paintable” glaze.

Using a pastry brush, brush this glaze over the entire top of the fritter. Let glaze harden slightly, turn it over and “paint” the glaze on the bottom. Place glazed fritters on wire rack; let glaze harden, then serve.

If you do not like glaze on your fritters, the author of this recipe also suggests sprinkling the hot “right out of the fryer” fritters with powdered sugar and cinnamon. For mine, I used the glaze option and they were perfect.
Tip #1: These apple fritters are at their very best the first day you make them!
Tip #2: If using self-rising flour as substitute for all purpose flour, omit baking powder and salt from the recipe.
Tip #3: Once oil cools, strain it, store it in a container in refrigerator to use on another batch!

Give The Gift Of Plumpy Nut❣❣❣❣

How many times do you spend $12 dollars??? I mean honestly $12 dollars is like nothing!! It’s two meals at Taco Bell, three Starbucks drinks, one movie ticket, a bottle of nail polish, the list goes on and on!!

But what if you could buy 21 life saving packs of Plumpy Nut for $12 dollars?? What is Plumpy Nut, well it’s a bar made with a peanut paste base and it helps malnutrished children gain weight!! Plumpy Nut is to be eaten three times a day and it can be eaten at home without the supervision of a costly medical staff, that for many families is simply to expensive and to far away.

The best part is that the bars have a shelf life of two years and come in a plastic rapper that can be stored anywhere! They’re even classified by  UNICEF as therapeutic food!!

Before Plumpy Nut families would have to take their children to a hospital and they would have to be given therapeutic milk. Now they can take them to a check up, get their supplies and take them home!! Plus according to the children they’re pretty tasty!!

You can give the gift of Plumpy Nut for only $12 dollars by donating to UNICEF just click the link!!

Pray For Craig Morgan and his family!

Tonight we learned that the body of Craig Morgan’s son Jerry was recovered after a tragic tubing accident this past weekend. I can’t even imagine the pain that the Morgan family is feeling tonight. Losing a child is the most heartbreaking pain a parent can feel.

Sometimes when we don’t know what to say or how to say it music will take the place of word’s and when I heard the news I could only think if one song that I felt was appropriate to share, ‘Go On Without Me’ By Brett Eldredge

Tonight please pray for the Morgan family and tell your loved ones how much you love them!!

    ❣Song Of The Week❣

It’s week two of July!! Where in world is summer going???

So this week I’m picking my favorite song by Mr. Brett Eldredge!!

The worst part about this song is that it has never been released!! Yes, leave it to me to find a song that’s never been released, sorry!!

Okay so if you’ve been to one of Brett’s shows you’ve probably heard it; especially if you went to any of his shows when he was on tour in 2014!!

Or if you were jamming out to Brett way back in 2011 you might have heard it during Couch Sessions!!

“Can’t Behave” is the most flirty song I’ve heard in a long time!! It’s also one of the cutest, (Sorry I’m a hopeless romantic)!! But honestly it’s super fun and cheeky (I love that word)!

    ❣Dress To Impress❣

So if you are anything like myself then you have already planned out your entire wedding on Pinterest, the only thing missing is the groom!! I’m talking literally everything from flowers, the month, hair/make-up and even the gifts you’re going to give to the bridesmaids!! I’ve literally got it all figured out!!

I’ve looked at thousands of dresses!! Then I came across this one and I’m hooked!! I don’t know what it is about this dress, but it’s perfect!! My mom said it reminds her of something Carrie Underwood would wear in a music video (that made me love it even more!).

I just have a small problem, (besides the no groom thing), I have no clue who makes this dress! That’s the one thing that I can’t stand about Pinterest!
